Tuesday's Tip

We want to thank our subscriber, Kara, for this week's tip. Kara forwarded along an email about all the great uses for cucumbers. Here are some ways the cool vegefruit comes in handy:
  • Cucumbers contain most of the essential daily vitamins. Just one contains: Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, and Zinc.
  • Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a cucumber slice along the mirror. It will eliminate fog and provide a soothing, spa-like fragrance

  • We all know what it feels like once 2:30 rolls around! Rather than grabbing for a soda or refilling your coffee, try munching on some cucumber slices. You can also add them to your water.

  • Try rubbing a slice of cucumber (I would just peel the thing and use it all!) along your problem areas for a few minutes before hitting the pool or beach. The phytochemicals in cucumber cause the collagen in your skin to tighten. This one sounds too good to be true. We will have to do some further research and get back to you about the results!

  • Stressed out and don't have time or money for a massage or spa visit? Cut up an entire cucumber (You can use the one you just rubbed along your thighs and butt-cheeks..haha!) and place it in a pot of boiling water. The chemicals and nutrients react with the boiling water and are released in the steam providing a soothing, relaxing aroma.

  • Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins, and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients. Judging by how my Monday went, I should know whether this is true by Thursday!

  • For a "green" way to clean your faucets and sinks, rub a slice of cucumber along the surfaces you need to clean. It will remove tarnish and bring back the shine... at least for a little while until your boyfriend, husband, or roommate comes along and gets water everywhere!

We would love to hear whether these tips work for you!

xoxo

Fashion Experiment

After reading Michelle’s post about her closet and slowly switching out my closet wardrobe from summer to fall, I took a good hard look at my clothes. I realized that I have become a jeans kind of girl. This got me thinking, why don’t I wear any of the skirts or dresses in my closet? Some I had forgotten and some were so cute. Inadvertently, I placed myself into a “Fashion Box” (I will call it a box instead of a rut, it just sounds better lol) and I need to get out!!

Well, Michelle and I love a good challenge. So the first week of every month we will step out of our “Fashion Box” and try something new. We will take pictures and share with you how our week went, what we loved, what we hated, and what our biggest challenge was.

Gina's 1st Challenge: Wear dresses or skirts for one week. No pants or jeans!!

Take this challenge with us and step out of your “Fashion Box.” Let us know how it went, we love hearing from you. Pictures are welcome and we will post them. You can send them to lotus.blossomblogger@gmail.com

When and Why Did I Buy That?

Since joining this blog, I have been on a mission to update my look and put the best "me" out there for the world to see! My mission began in my closet. I took a good look at my wardrobe and started to rifle through it. Some clothes ended up in the give-away pile, while others fell neatly into place with their fellow closet coordinates (yep, all clothes are categorized by type and color). This makes it very easy to see where my wardrobe is lacking. For instance, I seem to love wearing black, and my closet could use a healthy dose of color. While cleaning up my closet, I came across several items still donning their tags! Not only were these items bound for Stacy London and Clinton Kelly's trashcan, they were a waste of fashion dollars and sense.

As I looked at each item, I thought about why and when I had purchased them. Was I shopping with a girlfriend and feeling the need to purchase because she was grabbing up so many great finds? Was it a bad day at work? Perhaps I went shopping after happy hour (I have done this and highly advise against it). From this moment on, I pledge to be a savvy shopper and really think about my purchases. I will think whether or not the item really fills a wardrobe need. I will steer away from basic black and add more colors. None of my clothes will remain with tags, but they will live a happy fashionable life.

We would love to hear about your fashion mishaps (We here at LBD love hearing from you). What is the biggest item you just had to have and then never ended up wearing?

David Lynch`s Lady Blue Shanghai poem

Have you, like me, wondered on which poem David Lynch`s wonderful "Lady Blue Shanghai" film (for Dior) was based on? Well, here it is:

Isn`t it touching!? David Lynch, the elegant Marion Cotillard and Dior - it doesn`t get any better! Oh bliss, oh heaven! David Lynch really is the last romantic.

Tuesday's Tip

The other day we talked about utilizing your resources, here are a few helpful tips!

Foundations! Foundations! Foundations! Adding foundation or staple pieces to your wardrobe is key. These are pieces that are well made and can be mixed and matched. A great blazer, for example, can be worn in a casual or dressy fashion. You can also change the look by adding cute colorful tops as well as fun accessories. Or a little black dress that can go from the office to a night out on the town by simply adding a cute cardigan. Adding these staples to your wardrobe will enable you to stay on budget, only having to purchase a few fun and funky pieces to help you create multiple looks.

Don’t forget to use the internet as a resource.

Ever have a question and wish you could ask a fashion expert well now you can visit: http://www.society.me/thebrabook and ask style expert & author Jene’ Luciani.

You Don't Have To Be Disappointed. Utilize Your Resources!

Just because we talk about fashion and beauty on a budget doesn't mean we have to sacrifice on style and aesthetics. The trick is to utilize your resources.

For example, I recently obtained from the library The 5 Minute Face by Carmindy. Yes, the library!! Utilize this resource. It's a great way to support your community as well as preview books before you add them to your collection. The 5 Minute Face guides you through; from skin essentials, to the types and colors of makeup that bring out your natural beauty. I love the fact that her steps are easy to follow and she shares her secrets tips with us. It's also helpful that the products she uses range from inexpensive to expensive.

With todays technology and wealth of information on the internet, that style or look you may be trying to achieve is just a click away. If the look that catches your eye is a little too pricey for your budget, take that look and bargain shop!! Utilize the internet to search for coupons or sale prices before you go out and purchase your items. This extra step will help you stay within your budget.

What tricks and resources do you utilize?
