Mix your tartan with other prints but make sure they have one colour in common (as black in the looks above). The shoes & accessories should match both prints.
(As seen in Just Cavalli F/W 10/11 & Jill Stuart F/W 10/11.)
2. Bohemian
Mix materials, styles & cuts. One piece should be wide & slouchy and the other one straight, tight or short. Make sure that one piece has a classic & feminine appeal. Wear with open, soft hair and light make-up.
(As seen in Just Cavalli F/W 10/11.)
3. Allover
Go for the full tartan look. It works great with costumes (suits may look a little too eccentric).
(As seen in Dsquared2 F/W 08/09 & Bottega Veneta F/W 06/07.)
4. Punk
Wear tight tartan pants (or a skirt) to a black, loose-fitting shirt without seams (it may be of cotton, leather or any black top with a matte shine). Be VERY careful with accessories, one bracelet or chain is enough (no chokers or rivets please).
(As seen in Balmain F/W 08/09.)
5. Vintage Nerd
This look is all about covering up. Wear a blouse with tie under a vintage coat (preferably straight cut) and slim tartan pants or skirt. Style your hair "undone". The aim is to look effordless & intellectual.
(As seen in Alexander McQueen F/W 06/07.)
6. Romantic Frenglish
Mix something fresh & romantic (like the cognac leather jaket with lace details) with something heavy & old (like the long tartan skirt). The aim is to look like a young, fresh girl who stole clothes from her big sister and mother. Accessorize a lot!
(As seen in Alexander McQueen F/W 06/07.)
7. With Tweed
Mix tartan and tweet pieces, which come from the same colour-range.
(As seen in Isaac Mizrahi F/W 10/11.)
8. Boyish / Avantgarde
This look is about mixing shapes. Wear extremely slim pants (every length works) or leggings with an oversize jaket or blouse (of square or round shape). Wear your hair together and be only playful in details (like wearing socks in pumps or peeptoes). No jewellery please, accessorize with sunglasses.
(As seen in Balenciaga Cruise 10 & Iceberg F/W 10/11.)
9. With Knits
The classic choice: combine your tartan with a knit cardigan.
(As seen in Moschino F/W 06/07.)
10. With Black
The save choice: combine with one black piece.
(As seen in Giorgio Armani F/W 10/11.)
