5 Sexual Deviations
There is "across-dressing' or transvestitism, found among a few male and female homosexuals, who adopt the general characteristics of the opposite sex. The male transvestite may wear louder dresses, higher heels, use more cosmetics, and wear longer false eyelashes than most women. Women transvestites go in for rougher slacks, shorter hair, and behave more gruffly than males·. There are some transsexuals who have undergone surgery in the genital area to transform them as nearly as possible to the opposite sex. Christine Jorgensen is a celebrated case; she lived as a male until surgery and now lives as a woman.
There are other sexual deviations, such as pedophilia, in which the sex object is an immature child. These deviates are considered dangerous; their cravings often result in murder, inspired more by fear of identification than by brutality.
When animals are used for the achievement of sexual excitation, we speak of the deviation as besiality. This form of contact is found mostly among adolescent males in rural areas where a variety of animals are available. They soon grow out of it as women become more available. On the other hand, some males turn to animals when rejected by women.
More commonly we hear of fetishism, where sexual interest is ocused on something inanimate, such as an article of clothing. The mere sight of, or contact with. the. object brings sexual gratification. Fetishists are usually males. Like voyeurism (looking at the genitals or other part of a sex object's body, it does serve a normal excitatory nction during the play period preceeding heterosexual coitus.
We frequently hear of sadism, where a pathological motive leads o the infliction of pain upon another person. This pain may be of a physical or verbal nature, or both. The physical punishment commonly includes kicking, biting, or whipping; there are instances here murder has been committed. At the verbal level, the sadist uses abusive language, teasing or threatening the subject. The type and equency of sadistic practices vary widely from one individual to other and even within the same individual from one situation to the next. Mild sadism may be expressed during sexual intercourse through punching or biting the sex partner,
In masochism the deviate attains sexual pleasure by having ·inflicted on himself. Whereas most sadists in our culture are en, masochism is predominantly found in women, But these descriptions are not always clear-cut; sadistic and masochistic behavi· are often present in the same person. This deviation is called omasochism.
Impotence refers to the condition in males where an erection ot be retained long enough for intromission, or where potency has been occasionally lost, Worry and fatigue may temporarily impair xual potency. Sexual unresponsiveness in the female is known as frigidity, and, as in the case of male impotence, there are degrees of frigidity. This may range from a diminished sexual drive to active resistance to any sexual activity, Early impotence is said to result in sychological conflicts, and frigidity from feelings of insecurity, disgust, or even hostility. Studies of marriage partners indicate that female may be introduced to sexual relations for the first time in atmosphere of haste, dissatisfaction, and sometimes disillusion.that can lead to frigidity. Although frigidity in the female is the terpart of impotence in the male, it is more common.
Prostitution is considered a form of sexual deviation different the aberrations described above. It is a business relationship. The buyer is usually male, although in a few cases one finds a female buyer. Prostitutes often become the targets for a wide range of sual practices, even physical punishment. Kinsey reports that in cases the female prostitute does not become sexually aroused during a professional contact. At the organized level, prostitution involves a large percentage of drug addicts, mentally deficient girls, and antisocial personalities. Most girls drift into prostitution, rather than make a conscious decision to become a professional. It becomes a way of life from which it is difficult to escape. The organization on the street involves pimps who line up business, pay fines, and put up bail for the prostitutes to get them back on the street. Some pimps set nightly quotas and punish "their" girls if they do not meet the requirements. Prostitution has a class structure that ranges from the flophouse to the high-rise apartment. It is sometimes highly organized with money interests investing for a "cut" of the fees. But for the individual girl, basic loneliness is a big problem in this sexual deviation.
