We find the dominating type of person who wants to run things and perhaps people. There is the individualist, who has a great need for doing what he or she wants to do and is often (though not always) willing to pay the price for nonconformity. Then there is the group oriented social type, who strongly wants the acceptance of others. This person thinks of adjustment as the ability to meet the demands expectations of the group to which he or she belongs. We have also the ideologue, who is committed to a set of ideas or ideals, who is willing to engage in struggles, not for power over others but because he or she sincerely believes that power is essential to furthering a cause. Another is the professional rebel whose adjustment consists of being different in many ways. These are only rough clasifications and are not, of course, mutually exclusive. One may be an individualities in one situation and a social type in another. Although we are all individuals, likenesses in value orientation give direction to the adjustments we seek.
