4 Steps to Do a Swing Fist

The solid impact that occurs when you swing your fist -- also called throwing a punch -- and connect with your opponent can cause devastating impact. Swinging your fist and delivering a punch is the object in boxing. It is also your opponent's goal. The ability to deliver a well-thrown and well-timed punch is the key to being successful in boxing and other mixed martial arts competitions.
Step 1
Stand with your left shoulder facing your opponent. If you are right-handed, this will put you in a position to deliver a stiff left jab. This is one of the most important punches in boxing because you can throw it repeatedly and punish your opponent. Step toward your opponent with your left foot and snap your hand out toward his chin or upper body.
Step 2
Bring your fist back to the ready position directly after impact. This will allow you to throw another left jab before your opponent is ready to defend himself.
Step 3
Step toward your opponent with your left and fake throwing a left hand punch. As your opponent moves to block this punch, he will be open to getting hit with a right hand. Fire a straight right hand punch at the chin, mouth, nose or temple. These are among the most vulnerable areas on the body, and you can devastate your opponent with punches to this area.
Step 4
Throw quick and hard punches that get to the target area quickly. Do not throw wild, looping punches that can easily be blocked. Short, quick punches have the most devastating impact and can have a powerful impact on the recipient of those punches.
