Food Consumption and Homocysteine 
The effect of food consumption on tHcy concentrations is complex. In recent studies, tHcy has been shown to be positively associated with both coffee consumption and dietary protein intake, although a direct link between methionine content of the diet and tHcy levels has not yet been proven. The routine use of fasting (12 h fast) samples removes this difficulty.
