Maria Tallchief
born: 1925American. Studied with Ernest Belcher, Bronislave Nijinska, and the School of American Ballet. Danced with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo from 1942-1947, became soloist.
Danced with the Paris Opera Ballet in 1947. Joined Ballet Society, (Now New York City Ballet), in 1947 and stayed with them until 1965. Also danced seasons with the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo, (1954-1955), and the American Ballet Theatre, (1960-1961). Made Many Guest Appearances worldwide.
Danced in such ballets as Night Shadow, Orpheus, Scotch Sympnony, Allegro Brilliante, and Apollo. Was married to George Balanchine.
