It’s always fun to date a young student or struggling artist or even a frat boy, but sometimes you might be craving someone with class wearing a nice suit. When dating older men, or if you are already with a silver fox, then you should be aware of some behavior tips about things to do and not to do when you are out with your new older man.
Try not to reference fads when you were a kid. Your favorite cartoon or fad that came out when you were 5 or 6 years old was when he was just finishing college. Try to stay away from references like this as this will just highlight your age difference and can cause uneasiness. Focus on things in the present that you both share as adults.
Don’t act like his daughter. Remember, even though he is older than you, he is still not your father. He should not be a substitute for a male adult figure that is lacking in your life. If he already has children, act like a mature mother and not like his children’s sibling. Also don’t let him boss you around like he does to his children. Be a mature adult.
Have the same goals. If he is the kind of guy who only dates girls younger than 25, then it might not be a good idea to hang around as he will be looking for the next girl in line. Make sure that you are both looking for the same goals in a relationship as many men will just find a girl younger than him on occasion which he will find irresistible. At the same time, he might be ready for kids and you probably won’t be, so make sure you both discuss what will happen in the next years down the road.
Just be yourself plus a bit more mature. Of course the most common and best advice is for you to just be yourself. After all, he is falling for who you really are and that is who you should always be. However, you should also try to be mature and not expect him to do crazy things that young people do like drink and party until 5 in the morning. Most of the life experiences that you wish to accomplish he has probably already done. The most important thing is to just be understanding and let him also be himself as he should do the same for you.
