When going out on a date with someone new, emotions run high and intense anticipation will lead to unrealistic expectations. You might be out with someone who may seem very different than who he or she is in reality. You do not want to be stuck with someone who is after your money (referred to as a “gold digger”) and will hurt you in the future. Here are some signs to look out for.
Constant talk about a luxury life
If your date is talking about how much he or she wants expensive fancy cars, 5 star hotels, and trips to exotic destinations, there are two things that they might be. They could be wealthy and afford it all, or the worst case, they might wish they could live a luxurious lifestyle and will stop at nothing to get it even if it is at your expense. Ask your date to elaborate more on their luxurious dreams and how they plan on accomplishing them. Stay alert to red signs.
Many questions about your financial status
Although it is common for your date to ask you many personal questions, if they are asking too many questions about your financial status then you should be aware. There might be some reason why he or she is very concerned about how much wealth you have. If your discussions are prolonged about your job, your money, your luxuries, and investments, then your date might be one that struggles to make ends meet and might be looking for you to help him or her out.
Cannot support himself
If your date is complaining about his financial situation and can’t support himself, then this is another red flag. If you does the “forgot my wallet” trick or “I left my wallet in the car” or asks you to pay for the bill, be aware. There are many people out there who resort to these tricks to grab a free meal out of their date.
If one or two of these situations has happened to you on your first date, you might want to reconsider going out on a second date with the person. You cannot of course be absolutely sure about anyone after a first date, but these warning signs can provide adequate enough presumptions on who you are going out with and what they are really after.
