Homemade Musical Instruments for Kids
Homemade musical instruments are great for turning frowns upside down when those little ones are bored and have nothing to do. Once they get a taste of how fun it is to make and play musical instruments, they will want to make it an everyday activity. Easy handmade musical instruments typically include tambourines, maracas, buzz combs, horns and just about whatever else you can think of.
An easy homemade musical instrument to start off on would be a drum or a tambourine. To make a homemade set of drums you need various sizes of oatmeal containers or something similar. Using glue, glitter, sequins and other decorative items you can have the children decorate their drums however they choose. Once they’ve got their drums the looking the way they want, you only need popsicle sticks, chopsticks or just a good set of hands to make the drum beats rock till they drop.
Making musical instruments is fun, especially when you get to make a tambourine. Honestly, what is a band without a tambourine? To start making a tambourine, all you need is two paper plates, glue, yarn, decorative items, jingle bells and a hole puncher. Using the hole puncher, the adult should pierce the paper plates correctly so that the yarn can be easily strewn through the holes thus attaching one plate to the other. Before sewing the plates together completely, the kids should begin to put a few jingle bells inside the two plates and finish sewing them together. Once that part is done, the kids can spend all the time in the world making their tambourine looking as stylish and cool as they want. All they need to do to make music is to start shaking and feel the beat.
Other homemade musical instruments, like a horn, are even easier to make. Take a cardboard roll from a roll of paper towels and let the kids cover one end with wax paper using a rubber band to seal it. The adult in charge should then take a pencil and puncture the cardboard paper towel roll four or five times on the top. Now, all that is left to do is to let the kids decorate the "flute" however they like. To make music, all the kids need to do is sing or hum through the mouthpiece of the horn! Enjoy and have fun!
