Meet The Muse: Annabelle Dexter-Jones

Girl-about-town Natalie Joos spends her days casting for shows like ADAM and Yigal Azrouël and editorials for the likes of Mario Sorrenti and Mariano Vivanco, but her passion is vintage clothing. Joos’ blog, Tales of Endearment, which relaunches today in a chic new redesign by Buero’s Alex Wiederin, spotlights Joos’ “Muses,” impeccably styled girls who share her secondhand obsession. Annabelle Dexter-Jones is the baby of the sprawling Ronson/Dexter-Jones clan—which means that in her immediate family alone, she’s got rockers (her dad, Mick Jones of Foreigner; her brother, Mark Ronson), DJs (sister Samantha Ronson and brother Alexander Dexter-Jones), designers (sis Charlotte Ronson), and a legendary clotheshorse (mom Ann Dexter-Jones). And while she professes a desire to one day own her mother’s entire enviable stash of vintage, Dexter-Jones is doing just fine sourcing her own, from Courrèges to Alaïa. “She’s a real New Yorker, with style, poise, and a true affinity for vintage,” Joos says of her latest muse. “With minimal effort, she creates a style that suggests a less-is-more sentiment.” Annabelle spoke with Style.com about her philosophy of style—old and new.
What are a few of your favorite spots for buying vintage?
Melet Mercantile (by appointment at 84 Wooster St., #205, NYC, (212) 925-8353) is really good for work clothes. Resurrection (for locations, visit www.resurrectionvintage.com)—which is great, but a bit pricey—has exquisite costume cool, too.
Are there any vintage pieces in particular you collect—maybe, given the family business, band tees?
I’m always looking for a good minidress. I don’t really look for band shirts, but I have a few really special ones. Oh, it irks me so much when people wear bands they don’t listen to!
Speaking of the family, do you ever borrow vintage pieces from any of your siblings or parents?
I’m blessed with a stylish and generous mother—it’s a great combination! My favorite recent hand-me-down from her is an old Stephen Sprouse sequin mini.
Do you have a favorite vintage piece in your own wardrobe?
I have this strange Hawaiian-themed super-short dress from Sears. It’s definitely from the seventies. I stole it from my friend Sarah—shhh!
