Human requirement of Pantothenic acid

Human requirement of Pantothenic acid
A definite dietary requirement for pantothenic acid has not been established. In a survey by Chung and coworkers, 120 it was found that the pantothenic acid content of high-cost diets averaged 16.3 mg per day and for the poorest diets, 6.0 mg per day. These workers estimated that the average American diet provides from 10 mg to 20 mg per day. However, more recent studies suggest that the actual intakes may be considerably lower. In a group of teenage girls, some of whom were pregnant or postpartum, the estimated daily intake ranged from 1.1 mg to 7.2 mg. 121 The Food and Nutrition Board recommends from 4 mg to 7 mg as safe and adequa te daily intakes for adults. 30 for the recommendations for other age groups
